June 2020-Members of the Town of Oakland’s Clean and Green Team recently cleaned up planters and filled them with flowers so they can be placed throughout the downtown area. The planters were purchased using funds acquired a few years ago through a Keep Maryland Beautiful Grant. This year the flowers were purchased with monies raised by the Clean and Green Team at The Tucker County " Run For it" held in Davis, WV, last September. The Clean and Green Team is one of several revitalization teams formed in 2016 to assist with revitalization projects for Oakland. The objective of the Clean and Green Team works to develop and implement programs that keep Oakland clean, green, and beautiful. Past projects include: planters acquired for downtown filled with summer flowers then mums for the fall season, assisted with the plans and completion of the Oakland Dog Park, and the design and implementation of the Oakland Bottle Cap Mosaic which was completed through donations of monies, lids, and time from local organizations. Anyone wanting to be more active in the community where they live, work, shop and play via the Clean and Green Team or any other revitalization committees can sign up by contacting Nicole McCullough at mainstreetgoba@gmail.com.
