GOBA Advantages...GOBA, the Commercial District Management Authority (CDMA), is a separate entity under the Town of Oakland, but functions under its authority. GOBA’s specific mission is to promote Oakland as a unique place to live, work, and shop. We do this by pooling our resources and collectively advertising the Oakland business community. Members have the ability to participate in a number of new and changing promotions throughout the year including marketing Oakland’s businesses in general, through TV, radio, newspaper, and billboard advertising. Members also receive regular mailings that keep businesses informed about GOBA meetings and related happenings.
We are strongly dedicated to the revitalization of the downtown area and have been designated as a Maryland Main Street Community. We benefit from expert advice from the Maryland and National Main Street programs, seminars and consultants. Nicole McCullough is our Oakland Business Coordinator. She is available to meet one-on-one with businesses for brainstorming and technical assistance. A major portion of GOBA revenue is committed to this effort, which benefits the entire business community. GOBA also enjoys the benefits of the Town’s 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, the Oakland Heritage Community Foundation. Through this 501(c)3 organization, members are able to make tax deductible donations for specific projects within the community. It also makes us eligible for a variety of additional grant funding opportunities. In effort to foster Oakland’s unique and charming atmosphere, GOBA sponsors events such as The Little Yough Summer Concert Series, A Great Small Town Christmas, and the Little Yough Family Flicks movies to name a few. These are family events and are free to the public. We also provide autumnal decorations, seasonal banners, and contribute to the town Christmas decorations. We invite your business to get involved and become a member. Businesses outside of the Oakland city limits are encouraged to participate as an "Associate Member". |
